#2 Cause: Spyware, Adware & Malware

These irritating things can infect your computer if you have been surfing free download sites, or if you open suspicious applications that you download from the internet. One or two spyware on your computer usually do not affect computer speed, but if there are hundreds of them, it could really slow your computer down.

#3 Cause: Excessive Files In Your Temporary Folder

There could be too many files in your "temp" folder that is slowing down your computer. You can safely delete all the files in your temporary folder with the disk cleanup tool, but be careful not to delete away the "temp" folder.

The "temp" folder is hidden by default in your local disk. You can find it by going to My Computer->Local disk->Documents and settings->your username->Local Settings. You will need to adjust the settings to view hidden folders if you want to access it.

#4 Cause: Insufficient Disk Space

You could have too many programs installed on your computer that your disk capacity is running out. You should also be wary of any free software you download from the internet, because some of them contain spyware and viruses.

You can improve your computer speed by removing the software and programs that you do not need. Go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs and delete away the programs that you are no longer using.
